Birgit Sauer is Professor of Political Science at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Vienna. She is vice-spokesperson of the university research platform GAIN (Gender: Ambivalent In_Visibilities). From 2014 to 2017 she was spokesperson of the Gender and Agency research network at the University of Vienna and since 2008 she has been spokesperson of the Gender and Transformation research group at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Vienna. Her research focuses on right-wing populism and gender, politics, feelings and affects, political representation of women and comparative gender politics. Current projects: „POP-MED. Political and Media Populism: 'Refugee Crisis' in Slovenia and Austria“; „CURE - Cultures of rejection" and "MiCREATE - Migrant Children and Communities in a Transforming Europe”. Recent publications: Gender Equality in Politics. Implementing Party Quotas in Germany and Austria, Cham: Springer 2020, together with Petra Ahrens, Katja Chmilewski and Sabine Lang; Governing Affects. Neoliberalism, Neo-Bureaucracies, and Service Work, New York/London: Routledge 2020, together with Otto Penz.
